CYBERSIGHT

In many African countries, there are only a few ophthalmologists serving hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people. They need continuing education, mentoring and the opportunity to confer with colleagues on difficult cases. Fortunately, Cybersight – Orbis Africa’s telemedicine platform for online consultation and education – helps fill the gap.

In places we work on the ground, Cybersight increases the intensity and types of training we provide our local partners. But equally important, Cybersight allows us to make an impact in places we simply can’t work on the ground for reasons of cost, logistics or security.

This boundary-pushing telemedicine initiative enables eye care professionals in Africa to connect with top experts in other parts of the world free of charge. It provides an opportunity to advance their skills with training and guidance that may be unavailable in their location with case consultations, online courses and textbooks and live, interactive online training events with peers from around the globe.

All over the world – and in Africa in particular – mobile phones are increasingly the method people use to access information. All Cybersight services are optimised for mobile devices, and designed to work well even on slow connections.

To date, Cybersight has facilitated more than 16,000 patient case consultations, 26,000 online courses taken and thousands of hours of live lectures and live surgical training events. To learn more about Cybersight, visit the website.
