Advocating for Women & Children during Women’s Month

By Kira-Leigh Kuhnert

Orbis Africa presented an oral submission in the Parliament of South Africa in August 2017 on behalf of the South African Civil Society for Women’s, Adolescents and Children’s Health (SACSoWACH) to the Parliamentary Committee on Health.

The submission was in response to a call for input on the South African National Public Health Institute Bill; the Bill that will inform and support the roll-out of the National Health Insurance. The essence of the SACSoWACH submission is that to ensure universal health coverage, early childhood development should be included as a priority. SACSoWACH recommends the inclusion of a women, child and adolescent health expert on the National Public Health Institute board. The bill in its current form does not include such an expert.
